Riverside Arts Magnet Opportunities
Artists Out Loud Guest Speaker Series and Arts Workshops - Community artists, professors and art professionals regularly engage with our students in arts workshops and lectures.
College Arts Preparation - The Riverside Arts Magnet hosts a College Arts Event in October, welcoming college arts departments to engage with our students. Additionally, Magnet students attend college arts field trips, to experience life in the arts on college campuses. We also offer a resume building workshop, so students may begin preparing their portfolios and resumes for college applications, job interviews, auditions, and letters of recommendation. Each year in January, Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors participate in schedule counseling with our Guidance Department to ensure their placement in desired VAPA classes.
Art Festivals & Summits - Bringing our community together, the Riverside Arts Magnet hosts multiple festivals that include The Festival of Arts in October, The Ballet Folklorico & Mariachi Festival in February and the High School Film Festival in April. Twice a year we host Magnet Summits to engage our students in movement, poetry, theatre, music and visual art.
Exhibition Opportunities - Arts Magnet Students showcase their work on-campus in the Ram-o-Rama Fall Exhibition and Spring Salon; and off-campus in The Portrait Project at Division 9 Gallery and The Body of Freedom at the Center for Social Justice & Civil Liberties.
Performance Opportunities - A multitude of performance opportunities are available to students in the Festival of the Arts, Magnet Showcase, Ramona Holiday, The Body of Freedom, Riverside Arts & Music Festival, Festival of Lights, REEF Best Event Ever and The Senior Showcase.
Artist Recognition - We recognize Magnet artists weekly in RamTV Artist of the Week, bi-annually in the Fall and Spring Magnet Celebration and award the Magnet Director’s Award to one outstanding Magnet Member from each discipline each year. At Graduation, each magnet member receives an official Magnet regalia, which includes a Magnet stole, pin and cords.
Magnet Summer Arts Camp - The Riverside Arts Magnet welcomes all RUSD Middle and High School students to participate in the Magnet Summer Arts Camp for a week of free arts workshops, which have included mural design, figure drawing, theatre, 3-D printing, and paper-maché art.
Arts Field Trips - Our Magnet students attend Arts field trips to Museums, Art Centers, Music Halls, Theatre Performances and Colleges
