Maxine Frost was the longest serving member fo the Riverside Unified School District Board of Education. Starting as a substitute teacher in the 1960s and as a member of the District's Desegregation Committee, she then joined the Board of Education in 1967 and was re-elected nine times. Frost served 40 years until her death in 2007. She often led as Board President and was ultimately designated as Dean of the Board as a result of her devoted service. She was instrumental in bringing the AVID program to the District, which improves access to higher education to underrepresented families. In addition to her dedication to RUSD students, faculty, and staff, she championed many state and national education policy issues. Frost was President of the California School Boards Association in 1980 and was appointed by California Governor George Deukmejian to serve on the Education Commission of the States.
Naming this performing arts center in her honor is a fitting tribute to her service to the District.
